Upholding the official beliefs and doctrines of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and spreading the three angels' message of Revelation 14:6-12
The Law of God is universal, applying to all people of every age. Its commands are eternal and unchanging as God Himself. In the heart of the 10 Commandments is a call to remember the Sabbath and keep it holy.
Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. (Exodus 20:8-11)
This commandment points us to the Creator of all life, to whom we owe allegiance both for life and for the gift of salvation through Jesus. This gift shows the immeasurable love of God for sinners, in that Christ died for the ungodly (Romans 5:6-12). Jesus suffered for our sins, was insulted, forsaken, yet patiently bore all this to save us (1 Peter 2:21-25).
The prophet Isaiah in chapter 53 vividly portrays the life and death of the Messiah. This chapter should be studied and it would be beneficial to commit it to memory. By his death Jesus made an atonement for sin and now intercedes as our High Priest (Hebrews 7:25).
But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. (Isaiah 53:5-7)
The cross reveals the selfless love of God, and our sinfulness and selfishness in contrast. By faith in Christ we can receive forgiveness and a new life in obedience to the 10 Commandments, including the Sabbath.
Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. (Revelation 14:12)
